AIRONE

Airone is an innovative outdoor canopy that reimagines sun and wind protection. Inspired by the silhouette of a heron, its four-bar linkage mechanism allows the structure to fold completely parallel to the ground, transforming from kinetic sculpture to compact form in a single motion. Built with recycled aluminum, marine-grade steel, and a right-to-repair philosophy at its core.

The Challenge //04

Engineering beauty without sacrificing function or the planet.

AIRONE
Key Challenges

Traditional canopies act like sails. Airone solves this with a four-bar linkage that folds the structure parallel to the ground, drastically cutting wind resistance without losing structural integrity.

Every component uses a standardized hex head matching the multifunction crank: the same tool that opens the canopy can disassemble and repair the entire structure. No toolbox needed.

Fitting a 350cm canopy into a car trunk required rethinking the folding geometry from scratch. Integrated 360° wheels allow single-person transport without disassembly.

Every material was chosen for its full lifecycle: recycled aluminum, AISI 316 marine steel, and post-consumer polypropylene. Durability and recyclability without aesthetic compromise.

Design Approach //004

Form follows the heron. Function follows the mechanism.

AIRONE detail 1

Biomimetic form

The curvature of the main arm isn't decorative: it's the direct result of the four-bar kinematic constraint. Nature's logic encoded into geometry.

AIRONE detail 2

Single degree of freedom

A complex motion controlled by a single input. One crank opens everything, reducing error, improving reliability, and making the experience feel inevitable.

AIRONE detail 3

Identity through engineering

The brand identity follows the object: minimalist, silent, structural. Logo and pictogram derived directly from the kinematic geometry of the mechanism itself.

Final Outcome //04

A kinetic outdoor shelter that performs like engineering and feels like sculpture.

AIRONE
"Not just a shelter. A kinetic sculpture. Inspired by the Heron's silhouette, Airone folds into the landscape to restore your horizon."
